In 2004, Gordon reached out to a Czech inline skate buyer online, who expressed his desire to sell Chinese inline skates in the Czech Republic. Gordon Ji, the founder of GY brand, was keenly aware that he could take this opportunity to create a brand, so he immediately began to design a logo and named it GY, which is the pinyin initials of Gao Yuan. In the following months, Gordon found a Taiwanese inline skate factory in Humen, Dongguan, made samples and sent them to the Czech Republic, and they were recognized by the customer. Soon the customer ordered 1,200 pairs of GY brand inline skates from GY. This is the origin of the GY brand.
Milestones
2009: Origin of GY Hockey
In 2009, a Russian buyer found the trade leads about ice hockey goalie helmets posted by Gordon on the Internet and took the initiative to contact GY. After several rounds of tough negotiations, Gordon finally met with the Russian buyer in Guangzhou and successfully got the first order for 12,000 pieces ice hockey cages. The success of this order opened up the opportunity for GY to enter the ice hockey market. Subsequently, GY developed the first customized ice hockey helmet for this Russian brand and completed an order for 20,000 pieces ice hockey helmets. From this successful cooperation, Gordon was keenly aware of the huge potential of ice hockey product market, and developed the GY-PH9000 series of ice hockey player helmets in the same year. This marked GY's official entry into the ice hockey market.
